Columbia Night: M. Butterfly

Join the Arts Initiative, Columbia Alumni Association Arts Access, and Columbia University School of the Arts at the new Broadway production of David Henry Hwang's M. Butterfly followed by a special conversation with SOA professors Hwang and Lynn Nottage.

M. Butterfly is directed by Julie Taymor and written by David Henry Hwang based on Giacomo Puccini's opera Madama Butterfly. Inspired by the true scandal that captivated the world, M. Butterfly charts the scandalous romance between a married French diplomat Rene Gallimard starring Clive Owen and a mysterious Chinese opera singer, Song Liling starring Jin Ha '13CC—a remarkable love story of international espionage and personal betrayal. Their 20-year relationship pushed and blurred the boundaries between male and female, east and west—while redefining the nature of love and the devastating cost of deceit.
