Gigi Scaria: All About This Side

Aicon Gallery invites you to a special Closing Reception for All About This Side, the first major New York solo exhibition by Delhi-based artist Gigi Scaria. The Reception will feature a conversation between the artist and Dr. Sumathi Ramaswamy, Professor of History at Duke University. The discussion will focus on the painful consequences of urban sprawl, rushed city planning, and environmental degradation taking place in expanding cities the world over, a long-standing central concern of Scaria’s practice. In light of Hurricane Harvey’s catastrophic destruction and in support of recovery efforts, Aicon will be donating a percentage of sales from the exhibition to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. This event is free and open to public.

Due to limited seating, RSVP’s are strongly encouraged via email at

Aicon Gallery in New York, co-founded by Mr. Prajit Dutta, Professor of Economics at Columbia University, provides a vital platform for Modern and Contemporary artists from South Asia as well as the Middle East and, finally, diasporic artists to realize their vision in a global and ever-shifting world.  Alongside in-depth, focused solo shows, the gallery presents a program of curated group exhibitions that are international in their scope and ambition.  Following recent debates in institutional curating, the program deliberately links together art produced recently with art made in the latter half of the 20th Century.  Through this, the gallery hopes to produce unexpected congruencies, shed light on multiple modernisms, make complex the designation “contemporary” and signal a shift away from simple survey exhibitions.
