The Judgment of Paris
The Columbia University New Opera Workshop is thrilled to present John Eccles's 1701 opera "The Judgment of Paris." Initially composed as part of a contest to promote English opera, Eccles's little-known opera is now considered one of the most important works of the English Baroque era. Adapted from accounts by Homer and Ovid, "The Judgment of Paris" tells the classic myth of the three goddesses who woo Paris for the prized golden apple.
