Metropolis (1927) with a Live Score

Fritz Lang’s influential German science-fiction silent film will be brought to life through an electro-acoustic score composed and performed live by award-winning flutist, composer, and educator Yael Acher “KAT” Modiano. For the pre-show, the NYC Vintage Enthusiasts will curate a “retro-futuro” fashion show on the United Palace’s renovated stage. As always, guests are encouraged to dress in theme costumes.

Film Synopsis: Metropolis presents a highly stylized futuristic city where a beautiful and cultured utopia exists above a bleak underworld populated by mistreated workers. When the privileged youth Freder (Gustav Fröhlich) discovers the grim scene under the city, he becomes intent on helping the workers. He befriends the rebellious teacher Maria (Brigitte Helm), but this puts him at odds with his authoritative father, leading to greater conflict.
