Brooklyn Historical Society Dumbo

Shifting Perspectives: Photographs of Brooklyn's Waterfront

This exhibition features the work of two dozen photographers including Berenice Abbott, Bruce Davidson, and Chester Higgins, whose images crisscross the Brooklyn shoreline, from Coney Island to the Gowanus Canal.

The new Brooklyn Historical Society DUMBO is located in the historical Empire Stores, a 19th century warehouse situated in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Empire Stores is an iconic structure representing Brooklyn's rich past and present of a working waterfront. Erected in phases from 1869-1885, Empire Stores was a storehouse for all kinds of goods coming through the New York harbor, particularly coffee and tobacco. Redeveloped in 2016, Empire Stores is now a hub of Brooklyn food, culture, and tech along Brooklyn Bridge Park.
