Studio Salon | Shapeshifters with Aimee Meredith Cox

For this unique presentation of her first monograph, Shapeshifters: Black Girls and the Choreography of Citizenship, anthropologist and professor Aimee Meredith Cox will lead participants through a guided conversation and writing exercises to engage the creation and documentation of conceptual black feminine spaces and experiences. Shapeshifters is an intimate look at the strategic methods developed by young black women in a Detroit homeless shelter to intervene on marginalizing structures. Studio Salon is the Museum's literary society that invites language lovers to participate in an ongoing series of author talks, book launches and writing workshops exploring the intersections of literature and contemporary visual art.
