The Jewish Museum:
Founded in 1904 and located on New York City’s Museum Mile, the Jewish Museum is dedicated to the enjoyment, understanding, and preservation of the artistic and cultural heritage of the Jewish people. The Museum maintains a unique collection of nearly 30,000 works of art, ceremonial objects, and media reflecting the global Jewish experience over more than 4,000 years. The Museum applies a contemporary lens to its exhibitions, which range from ancient to contemporary art.

The Position:
The Curatorial Intern (American Contemporary Art) will assist with research and administrative duties for an upcoming exhibition on American Contemporary Art. The Jewish Museum is looking for a self-motivated individual with a strong background in art history and excellent research skills who would like to develop their curatorial skills in a professional, supportive environment.

Responsibilities Include:
•Conducting research via online databases and offsite at local art libraries
•Maintaining and updating exhibition checklists; communicating with registrars and/or design teams
•Drafting and mailing loan requests and agreements; checking status
•Creating Powerpoint presentations for other museum departments
•Maintaining list of exhibition contacts
•Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
A qualified candidate should have a B.A. in Art History or related field with preparedness demonstrated through previous relevant research and work experience. Candidates should also have some or in depth knowledge and research experience in several of the following areas: history of New York City (social, cultural, political), the 1960s, the Civil Rights Movement, feminism, an awareness of key contributors (artists, authors, gallerists, performance) of the Contemporary art world. Other potential areas of research include, film, television and media, and decorative arts and design.
