Development and Communications Coordinator

Start Date: February 6, 2017

The Laundromat Project has a paid internship available for an
     individual interested in assisting with the nourishment of
     creative community leaders through fundraising, special events,
     marketing, and administrative operations. This internship will
     provide proactive and passionate individuals with hands-on
     experience in a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing
     the intersection of art, community, and social justice. The
     intern will work closely with our 2-person Development &
     Communications team to support The LP’s day-to-day
     administrative and development operations, digital
     communications, special events, and donor and volunteer

     This internship will run from February-June 2017 with some start
     and end date flexibility based on availability. The weekly
     schedule will require a commitment of 15 hours a week, between
     10-6pm Monday through Friday at our office in Harlem.

Duties may include:

  •      Researching individual and corporate prospects
  •      Data entry and management of contacts and donors
  •      Supporting social media and email communications through content collection, creation, scheduling, and analytics
  •      Assisting with design and production of print and online collateral
  •      Providing key support in managing and organizing The LP’s digital assets and portfolio of written and designed communications
  •      Supporting stewardship efforts with donors and volunteers
  •      Assistance with planning of and on-site support at special events, the biggest being our annual fundraising gala, SOAPBOX
  •      Tracking donations from individual and corporate donors
  •      Preparing printed materials for board and donors
  •      Coordinate with and support Development & Communications team and other LP staff as needed

Qualified candidates will meet the minimum requirements:

  • An understanding of The LP’s mission and values
  •      Consistent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  •      Candidate must also be reliable and punctual.
  •      An interest in marketing and fundraising-driven projects
  •      Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and proofreading experience
  •      Proactive ability to juggle multiple tasks, manage priorities and time well, and collaborate with others on projects
  •      Proficiency in Google Apps, Microsoft Office suite and Adobe CS5 software: InDesign, Illustrator, & Photoshop
  •      Basic graphic design experience with printed materials and simple digital graphics
  •      Familiarity with social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and a willingness to better understand these platforms
  •      Positive and professional demeanor and a flexible, can-do attitude
  •      Curiosity and a sense of humor and fun

Additional preferred, but not required skills and qualities:

  •      Interest in learning more about fundraising
  •      Enjoys creating and improving procedures and systems
  •      Experience using email marketing clients, such as Mailchimp
  •      Experience with CRMs and/or donor databases
  •      Proficiency in HTML
  •      Working experience with WordPress
  •      Prior experience working on special events production
  •      Knowledge and experience working with Hootsuite and Snapchat
  •      Photography experience

Details and Perks
     Stipend: $2,300 for the internship. College credit can be
     arranged in addition to the stipend.
     Possibility to continue an internship in Summer and Fall 2017
