Teen Academy Assistant

 ICP’s Teen Academy serves over 700 high school students per year including seasonal ten-session black-and-white and color darkroom and new media classes, an off-site summer digital intensive program, a yearlong advanced program for juniors and seniors called Imagemakers, and weekly Friday evening open labs. In addition to photographic instruction, all curricula include lessons in critical thinking, writing, and public speaking. Working with the Teen Academy Manager, this full-time position is primarily administrative and organizational, providing support within all aspects of Teen Academy. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment providing exemplary photography education to diverse audiences as well as a solid understanding of darkroom and digital photography practices.

Job Responsibilities

  •  Assist Teen Academy Manager in all Teen Academy related activities including outreach, implementation, and assessment
  • Maintain Teen Academy email database including 1500+ student/parent/guardian and 1500+ educator contacts
  • Communicate with high volume of prospective and participating students, parents, guardians and educators via phone and email, as well as in-person
  • Assist with outreach and recruitment through regular site visits to schools and community-based organizations
  • Administer the scholarship application and award process (50% of Teen Academy students are on scholarship), including preparing application forms and flyers, and gathering and assessing data and financial documents according to a rubric system
  • Maintain and regularly update sizable student image archive (images, activity shots, and artist statements) for print, web and social media, and Development department needs
  • Prepare welcome packets and supply kits for incoming students • Work with the equipment office in administering the loan of cameras and other equipment as needed
  • Assist in the creation of forms and paperwork including: registration, class preparation, profiles, and evaluations, etc.
  • Assist in preparation for final presentations and exhibitions
  • Maintain the Teen Academy alumni database
  • Assist with preparation for and hands-on implementation of workshops, both technical (darkroom, studio lighting) and pre-professional (resumé writing and portfolio preparation)

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Update promotional materials for the program including flyers and e-blasts
  • Organize and inventory supplies on a regular basis
  • Update comparative program research
  • Compile and synthesize statistical data for Development department needs
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  •  B.A. or M.A. in Photography, Education and/or related field
  • 1+ years of office and administrative experience in an educational and/or photographic environment
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong verbal communication, writing, and public speaking skills
  • Facility in working with people and particular interest in youth programming
  • Solid understanding of technical aspects of black-and-white darkroom, color, and digital photography
  • Strong administrative and computer skills (Windows, Mac OS X, Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Editorial and design skills including working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
  • Commitment to providing superior customer service

  • Proficiency in Spanish language preferred
