JOB TITLE: Youth Program Generalist

STATUS: Part-time

REPORTS TO: Associate Director of Youth Development

START DATE: As soon as possible

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

The Youth Program Generalist will primarily provide subject tutoring (STEM or ESL or Literacy preferred), general support services, and youth supervision for our out-of-school time program. Candidate will need to be available on Saturdays from 10am-5pm (half hour unpaid break for lunch from 12:30-1pm) as well as Mondays and Thursdays from 3-6pm. Other weekday afternoon shifts may be available. The ideal candidate(s) will have experience working with immigrant or low-income communities and a background in group facilitation, conflict resolution and participatory learning.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Tutor elementary, middle and high school students in all academic subjects with a focus on English as a Second Language, STEM, or Literacy
Facilitate weekly structured conversation and writing sessions that strengthen language skills
Support with Saturday mentoring and arts enrichment program
Coordinate with teachers and parents of students to monitor progress
Maintain classroom discipline with students and volunteers
Develop relationships with students based on respect and trust
Various shifts available including weekdays and Saturdays
Be a positive role model; Engage and inspire students
Other duties as assigned by supervisor

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s Degree or working towards Bachelor’s Degree required; Education degrees strongly preferred
Experience working with immigrant or low-income youth
Familiarity with DYCD, SACC and DOHMH requirements preferred
Computer skills in Microsoft Office suite and excellent writing skills are required
Proficiency in Arabic strongly preferred but not required, bilingual abilities preferred
Experience working with students in urban schools and/or community-based settings a plus
Job contingent on pre-employment background check and fingerprint clearance
Background in education or social work preferred
