Corona Youth Music Project
Working Time
Part Time

The Corona Youth Music Project (CYMP) is seeking a part-time Development Coordinator to join our team and coordinate efforts to build and implement a development system for our organization. The position will report directly to the Executive Director.

The Corona Youth Music Project is a community-based nonprofit organization founded in Corona, Queens in 2010. It offers tuition-free music education programs, instruments on loan and opportunities to participate in an ensemble. In the current school year, CYMP will serve around 180 students from over 30 different schools in Queens, from PreK to high school. It maintains three orchestras at different levels. Around 90% of the students have received all their instrumental education through CYMP. Its vision is to benefit as many children as possible. Besides the Orchestra Program, CYMP offers an Orchestral Initiation Program for children in Kinder through 2nd grades, as well as students in higher grades who have not had any previous instrumental training.

We are a small and dynamic organization looking for an individual who will bring a new set of skill and experiences to our program. The Development Coordinator will help the Executive Director and Board of Directors create and implement a fundraising plan to identify, cultivate, and retain funding organizations and individual donors who care deeply about our mission of social action through music.

Bachelor’s degree with experience in leading or participating in a development, philanthropy or fundraising team. Orchestral music background a plus.

This is a new position, so the successful candidate should be able to help build a development plan for the CYMP. Experience working within a successful development program is a strong requirement.

Additional requirements include:
Self-starter with the ability to prioritize and effectively manage shifting priorities without significant oversight
Strong work ethic, flexibility, professionalism, and passion for their work and the mission of music education, youth leadership, social justice and social change through music.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Superior organization and attention to detail
Strong research skills
Must possess the highest level of integrity

Coordinate the creation and operations of a development plan
Research for diverse sources of funding
Write, process and follow up on grant proposals both for foundations and government agencies
Create and execute individual giving campaigns throughout the year, including mailings and crowdfunding
Communicate with current and potential donors
Explore strategies for fundraising at the local community, in collaboration with parents, students and families
Maintain donor database and fundraising information and research

This position comes with a lot of potential for both growth and flexibility. While we are listing this as a part-time opportunity, we are open to structuring the salary and hours to fit the candidate we feel will best fit this organization and the long-term goals of this community-based organization. Some weekend and evening work might be required for events and meetings.

The Corona Youth Music Project’s activities are centered in Corona, Queens (ZIP 11368). However, the position allows flexibility to work remotely to some extent.
