The ideal candidate will have experience shooting film with a DSLR camera, knowledge of photo and film editing software, a background in photography and a strong attention to detail. The candidate must be able to work in a flexible, fast-paced environment and will be required to shoot video offsite - social events, concerts, interviews, shoots and festivals (tickets are covered).


Provide event coverage with still shots and video
Record & edit video to create dynamic content for YouTube & social media channels
Assist in creating digital content for distribution on social media channels
Format conversion and compression, color correction, & audio sweetening
Upload content to social media channels
Edit content for broadcast, promo spots, scripted shorts, brand trailers, short-form documentaries
Deliver refined edits and offline edits, Including rough sound mixing, rough color correction, and motion graphics incorporation
Record and edit voiceover tracks * Identify and implement creative and technical solutions to post production problems
Research and develop storyboard ideas for video content
Participate in a number of pitches
Collaborate with creative team and writers developing stories for a variety of editorial projects
In-studio shooting
Assist street team members with the set up for station events
Work events and understanding all that is involved
Absorb creative direction while bringing unique ideas and a point of view to the table.
Learn new skills and stay up to date of technical and digital video developments and successfully apply these to work practices to help improve processes and procedures.


We are looking for a proactive and fast-learning person with fresh ideas, reliable, good judgment, great instincts and a person who understands our mission. We are looking for someone who is motivated, organized, digitally and socially savvy, ambitious and interested in a hands-on experience within the digital media industry. Our interns have a positive attitude, a sense of humor, are creative, organized and are self-starters who take pride in their work and the brand.

1-3 years of editing experience. School projects will be considered, and professional work is a plus
Interested in the storytelling aspects of video production
Must be able to maintain a positive attitude while working closely with teams
Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (specifically After Effects, Premiere & Photoshop)
Experience editing film and optimizing video for the web
Ability to consistently produce high-quality work while meeting deadlines
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ensure proper backups and archives are made
Must be an organized, technical, and creative individual
Weekend availability to ensure coverage when informed
Knowledge of digital media including codecs, image types, resolutions, frame rates
Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud apps including Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, Media Encoder or After Effects

Brown Girl For The Arts is a new online magazine brought to you by a strong, smart, knowledgeable and hilarious team of ‘millennials’. We are committed to broadening the sluggishly changing narrative of pan-Africans in the United States through our appreciation of the Arts. BGFTA bridges conventional art forms with urban and Pan-African expression. In addition, we provide an event guide of cultural highlights taking place in New York City. We aim to share opportunities to appreciate artistic productions not often experienced by people of color, while proactively promoting and supporting our promising local and international artists. Our site publicizes resources in music, fashion, books, movies, dance, television, theater, video, design and the culinary arts.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious, high-energy individual to be on the front line with a tech startup, connecting with prospective customers and sourcing new prospects. Currently enrolled in or recently graduated college with a major focusing in film, graphic design, photography, visual communications, or other design-related field. This is a non-paid internship with the ability to receive college/ graduate school credit.
