Under Blakey’s relentless swing and uncompromising leadership, generations of trumpeters were forged in sound, spirit, and storytelling. When Wynton Marsalis stepped into Buhaina’s band in the early 1980s, he didn’t simply join a group—he stepped into a lineage rooted in blues feeling, virtuosity, discipline, and deep respect for the art form.
