Creative Conversation: Lina Puerta

Come meet the artist behind Manigua as she discusses her work with Wallach Art Gallery director and chief curator, Deborah Cullen. Tour the lobby with the artist and director as you learn about the creation process and meaning behind the work with refreshments following the conversation.

Lina Puerta is a Harlem-based Colombian-American artist. Her new installation Manigua from her Botánico Series, is inspired by weeds and uncontrolled nature within urban spaces, now on view in the lobby of Miller Theatre. Exploring the tension between humans and the botanical world, Puerta's ongoing series, which she started in 2010, evokes nature's resilient response amid efforts by humans to exert control. Puerta’s immersive installation will be displayed through June 29, 2018, greeting thousands of concertgoers as they arrive for performances at Miller Theatre over the course of the year.
