Van Doren Waxter, an Upper East Side gallery specializing in Post-War and Contemporary art, seeks a highly motivated full-time gallery assistant, who will assist in all facets of gallery operations. Candidates must have at minimum an undergraduate degree (art history preferred), strong interest and knowledge of art, and minimum 1 year full time work experience. A successful candidate will be highly personable, responsible and have strong communication skills. This is an excellent opportunity for someone poised and detail-oriented who is looking to be part of a dynamic team.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Answering the telephone, greeting visitors and clients
• Overseeing general email and directing requests to appropriate person
• Maintaining gallery listings and web presence
• Assisting with exhibition, art fair and opening preparation and setup, including creation of checklists, labels and presentation documents
• Assisting sales staff and partners
• Updating client database and ArtBinder
• Maintain catalog and book inventory

Qualifications / Requirements:
• Minimum undergraduate degree in art history or art business
• Minimum 1 year full time experience. Previous art gallery experience a plus.
• MAC proficient (Word, Excel), Filemaker (Artbase), Photoshop
• Must have strong organizational / communication / visual skills
• Highly personable / professional demeanor and able to work independently or in a team
• Must be responsible and a self-starter with a strong work ethic
• Must be extremely detail-oriented and able to multi-task
• Work Tuesday – Saturday 10am to 6pm, and additional during openings / fairs
• Minimum commitment of 2 years

Salary commensurate with experience plus health insurance, vacation, and
major holidays.
