Marianna Martines: A Legacy of Her Own

A theatrical concert presented by the socially-conscious Ensemble Pi and devoted to the music of the one of the most accomplished, yet little known, 18th-century Viennese women composers, Marianna Martines (1744-1812). Despite Martines' extraordinary musical talents, widely recognized during her lifetime, her music is still rarely programmed today. The evening will spotlight some of her chamber music, and will include arias for soprano which were never recorded before. The musical performances will also be framed by narrated scenes between Metastasio (who mentored and supported Martines) and Anton von Aaron (who “ officially” painted her) as a way to give context to the composer's life and music.

Featuring Idith Meshulam, piano and artistic director; Daniel Gortler, piano; Sarah Moulton Faux, soprano; Gon Halevi, Countertenor; Matt Gray, director and narrator; and Deborah Moulton, writer.
