About The Performance

Handspring Puppet Company’s Little Amal, a 12-foot-tall puppet directed by Tea Alagić, has become an internationally recognized celebrity. Following her original appearance as the biggest star of the 2019 Obie Award-winning play, The Jungle, Little Amal and her team traversed over 5,000 miles across Europe for The Walk project, drawing attention to the plight of childhood refugees and asylum seekers at politically charged public gatherings. Now, Amal journeys to New York City as a beacon of hope and a larger-than-life symbol of the American immigrant experience. Little Amal’s exploration of the Lincoln Center campus offers a powerful opportunity to see it anew, through the eyes of a refugee child who has just arrived here. Featuring a New Orleans style second-line parade led by Jazz at Lincoln Center musicians and music by composer Kareem Roustom and Antonín Dvořák.
