About The Performance

Hailed as the Queen of the Bullerengue, a traditional musical genre and dance from the Caribbean Region of Colombia, Ceferina Banquez boasts an impressive musical career spanning decades. The singer-songwriter, who is now almost 85 years old, has toured around the globe to much acclaim, sharing the Afro-Colombian traditions of her region with the world through cumbia-based rhythms. This summer, Ceferina brings her determined lyrics, inspired by her 18-year experience of being displaced, to the David Rubenstein Atrium for one special night of drums and joy.
