Event Details

Sauljaljui is a celebrated vocalist and songwriter hailing from the Indigenous village of Kapanan in the Hengchun peninsula of Southern Taiwan. She is renowned for her emotive interpretations of ethnic Paiwan melodies, Hengchun traditionals, and global folk songs.

Sauljaljui's heartfelt and versatile approach to music-making showcases a profound connection to her native land and cultural identity. She explores deeply personal themes of nature, community, and the human spirit with her nuanced performance on the yueqin (moon lute) and fusion of Mauritian beats, contemporary jazz, and rock aesthetics. Her most recent album, VAIVAIK (2024) earned her two GIMA awards and Best Indigenous Album and Best Arrangement honors at the 2025 Golden Melody Awards. As a cultural ambassador who has drawn international attention for star turns at major music festivals, Sauljaljui continues to reshape how Indigenous Taiwanese music is heard and understood worldwide. This show marks her Lincoln Center debut.
