About This Event
In tandem with the release of Okada Toshiki & Japanese Theatre, Japan Society will host scholars featured in the book to discuss the impact playwright/director Okada has made on the international theater scene. Following this initial panel, U.S. presenters and directors of Okada’s work examine the progression of his career in the States, and shed light on some of their past and present collaborations with the prolific playwright. Lastly, Okada joins us from Germany alongside Brooklyn-based theatermaker Aya Ogawa, English translator of all of his plays, for a fireside chat to talk about the monumental task of interpreting his stream-of-consciousness dialogue and his current projects abroad.
