About the Student Organization

Founded by composer Edward MacDowell in 1896, the Columbia University Orchestra is the oldest continually operating university orchestra in the United States. The principal mission of the Orchestra is to expose talented student musicians to the highest level of orchestral repertoire.

About The Performance

The Columbia University Orchestra will perform works by Bartok and Seeger. This concert is free and open to the public.

The orchestra was founded by composer Edward MacDowell in 1896 and is the oldest continually operating university orchestra in the United States.  As a course in the Department of Music, the principal mission of the orchestra is to give the students the opportunity to perform in an ensemble of the highest calibre.  Complete dedication, attention to detail, and the search for musical truths are inseparable goals of this highly accomplished ensemble.
