About the Festival

Columbia University School of the Arts presents an expanded festival of new plays written by Columbia MFA Playwriting Students. The esteemed faculty who have nurtured these students, including Tony, Pulitzer, and Obie Award winners such as James Ijames, Rebecca Taichman, Sarah DeLappe, Steve Martin, Will Eno, Karey Kirkpatrick and David Henry Hwang invite you to experience these innovative new playwrights.

During the celebration, May announces she will have surgery on her private parts, which shocks the friends and gives rise to heated discussion, because the surgery is so unusual and rarely spoken of. About The Performance

Three middle-aged women come together to celebrate the first birthday of May’s daughter. The play provides a window to peep into women’s intimate world, a world unknown to many of us.

About the Playwright

Mijuan Ye is a painter and bilingual playwright from China, a winner of national awards in playwriting and advertising design. Her plays have been produced and performed at Shanghai Theater Academy and Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center, selected and published in a number of books and magazines. Her art/printmaking has been collected and shown by the Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts Gallery and Shaanxi Art Museum. She is a current playwriting MFA candidate at Columbia University. Under the guidance and mentorship of David Henry Hwang, Lynn Nottage, and Charles Mee, her plays have been produced and are being produced by theaters and festivals in New York and China.
