About The Performance

One of the year’s best films and the first Indian film in thirty years to play in Competition at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Grand Prix, Payal Kapadia’s sophomore feature All We Imagine As Light is a breathtakingly intimate portrait of urban life in the thick of contemporary Mumbai. Kani Kusruti— recognizable from this year’s Girls Will Be Girls—stars as Nurse Prabha, dedicated to her work but adrift in her personal life. Her estranged husband remains incommunicado in Germany but for a mysterious package, and her younger roommate Anu (Divya Prabha) is engaged in a clandestine romance that tests Prabha’s patience and dogged pragmatism. When Prabha and Anu get a chance to escape the tightening grip of the city, their dreams and desires awaken new possibilities.

This is a free preview courtesy of the film’s distributor Sideshow/Janus Films; please RSVP to attend. A Q&A with filmmaker Payal Kapadia will follow the screening.
